THE INTERVIEWING PROCESS

Prior to interviewing applicants, you must have a clear understanding of what you are looking for in an employee. This should be a list of ideal characteristics, education requirements and skills for an employee that also include personality, character traits, personal appearance. This written list can then be used as a tool to compare the "ideal" with the person applying for the position. This will also allow you to compare "apples to apples" and to compare the applicant to an "ideal applicant". This guide is used in conjunction with a formal interview guide in order to insure a consistent approach to the hiring process. A sample list of employee characteristics and job description is provided. As all store operations are different, use this example as a guide in putting together your own characteristic sheet with your important requirements.
